How to use the key?
Follow the steps and click on the image that corresponds to the trait of your specimen.
1 Tegument densely pruinose with numerous setulae inserted in brown maculae, giving the appearence of a brown dotted body (Fig. 1) ... 2
1' Tegument slightly pruinose to densely pruinose without setulae inserted in brown maculae (Fig. 2) ... 3
If you have a neriid from the Caribbean islands, use the KEY FOR CARIBBEAN NERIIDAE available in:

3 Presutural scutum and antepronotal ridge, distinctly anterior to postpronotal carina (Fig. 5). Wing partially covered by microtrichia; basal bare areas extending beyond level of r-m in cells r1, r2+3 and r4+5 (Fig. 6) ... 4

3' Presutural scutum and antepronotal ridge, anteriorly ending at level of postpronotal carina (Fig. 7). Wing entirely covered by microtrichia (Fig. 8) ... 5
4 (2) Occiput shiny, narrowing posteriorly (longer than height, Fig. 9). Scape length less than twice its diameter in dorsal view (Fig. 10) ... Cerantichir Enderlein

4' Occiput opaque, at most subshiny; wide posteriorly (higher than length, Fig. 11). Scape length at least twice its diameter in dorsal view (Fig. 12) ... Longina Wiedemann
6 (5') Antennae at base separated by more than twice the diameter of the scape (Fig. 17). Wing vein dm-cu oblique, almost parallel to the wing hind margin (Fig. 18) ... Loxozus Enderlein

6' Antenna approximated, separated by less than the diameter of the scape at base (Fig. 19). Wing vein dm-cu not oblique, diverging from the wing hind margin (Fig. 20) ... 7
7 (6') Prosternum narrow, separated from the proepisternum by membranous area (Fig. 21). Inner process of pedicel narrow triangular (Fig. 22) ... Glyphidops Enderlein

7' Prosternum wide, united with proepisternal plate having no membranous area between them (Fig. 23). Inner process of pedicel wide triangular (Fig. 24) ... Nerius Fabricius
